CVFR has been proudly serving the citizens of Spotsylvania County for over 50 years. The county is rapidly growing with an area covering roughly 400 square miles and a population in excess of 120,000. It is located just outside of Fredericksburg, Virginia, which is approximately 65 miles south of our Nations Capital.

When the department was originally founded, it was known as the Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department because it only provided fire service to the surrounding area. In 2003, the organization changed its name to Chancellor Volunteer Fire & Rescue after becoming a combined system offering both Fire & Rescue services. Currently, CVFR has over 300 volunteer personnel that operate out of 4 fire companies and 5 rescue stations throughout the county. Career staff provides coverage Monday through Friday from 5:00 am - 6:00 pm, while the volunteers provide coverage during evening hours Monday through Friday and over the entire weekend.

In 2007, CVFR became the largest EMS agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia and in November 2007 were awarded the 2007 Governor’s Award for Outstanding Agency!
